Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre, a site steeped in aviation history. Established in 1913, it holds the distinction of being the United Kingdom's first operational military air station, a testament to the pioneering spirit of the Royal Flying Corps. From its early days as a training ground for pilots in World War I, to its crucial role in the air defense of Scotland during World War II, the station was a hub of activity. It was here that many British and Allied pilots, including numerous decorated aces, earned their wings. The station was also involved in clandestine operations, supporting the Norwegian resistance and serving as a base for Special Operations Executive missions.

After its closure in 1952, the site was preserved by a dedicated group of volunteers who transformed it into the award-winning museum it is today. The Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre offers a captivating journey through the history of flight, with a particular focus on the stories of the men and women who served there. Visitors can explore a rich collection of photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia that bring the past to life. The museum also features a variety of restored aircraft, including a Panavia Tornado GR4 and full-size replicas of a B.E.2a and a Sopwith Camel. The faithfully recreated interiors, such as the Station Commander's Office and a 1940s room, provide a unique glimpse into the daily life of the station's personnel. The museum stands as a tribute to the legacy of RAF Montrose and its significant contributions to a century of aviation.
