About This Aircraft

The Vickers Valetta was a British twin-engine military transport aircraft that served with the Royal Air Force in the post-war period. This example is a C.2 variant, VX573. The Valetta was a military development of the civilian Viking airliner, featuring a strengthened floor and a large cargo door. Powered by two Bristol Hercules 230 radial engines, it was a rugged and reliable workhorse. The Valetta was used for a wide variety of transport duties, including carrying troops (up to 34), freight, and paratroopers, and for casualty evacuation. It saw extensive service in various theatres, including the Malayan Emergency and the Suez Crisis, providing steadfast service across RAF outposts for many years.
