About This Aircraft
The Vickers VC10 is a mid-sized, narrow-body long-range British jet airliner. This aircraft, XR808, served with the Royal Air Force for 46 years and was affectionately known as "Bob". The VC10 was renowned for its exceptional performance in "hot and high" conditions, thanks to its powerful, rear-mounted Rolls-Royce Conway engines and large, efficient wings. XR808 was a C.1K model, a transport aircraft later converted with aerial refuelling capabilities. It served with No. 101 Squadron as a strategic transport, VIP aircraft, and air-to-air refuelling tanker. With its distinctive T-tail and four rear-mounted engines, the VC10 is an icon of British aviation design, celebrated for its grace, power, and long service.
