About This Aircraft
The Sopwith Pup was a British single-seat biplane fighter aircraft of the First World War. This aircraft is an authentic Pup, N5182. Renowned for its delightful flying characteristics, the Pup was a favourite among its pilots. It was a simple and elegant design, powered by an 80-horsepower Le Rhône rotary engine. Its armament was a single synchronised Vickers machine gun. While not as fast or as heavily armed as later fighters, its extreme manoeuvrability and docile handling made it a formidable opponent in a dogfight. The Pup also had the distinction of being one of the first aircraft types to successfully take off from and land on a moving ship, pioneering naval aviation. N5182 is a genuine WWI veteran, having served with the Royal Naval Air Service.
