About This Aircraft
The Slingsby T.21 Prefect was a British intermediate training glider that served with the Air Training Corps (ATC) and RAF gliding programmes in the post-war era. This example, WE982, is a T.X.1 military variant. Constructed from wood and fabric, the Prefect was a single-seat sailplane designed to bridge the gap between primary gliders and more advanced solo sailplanes. It was a simple, robust, and reliable aircraft, well-suited to its role of providing solo flight experience to young air cadets. Thousands of cadets would have had their first solo soaring flights in a Prefect, making it an important part of Britain's aviation heritage.
