About This Aircraft

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, nicknamed "Fishbed" by NATO, is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft that is one of the most-produced supersonic jets in aviation history. This example is a MiG-21PF, painted with the tactical number "503". The 'PF' was a second-generation, all-weather interceptor variant, featuring an improved "Spin Scan" radar housed in the central shock cone. Powered by an uprated Tumansky R-11F2S-300 turbojet, the MiG-21PF could exceed Mach 2. It was typically armed with air-to-air missiles. The MiG-21 epitomised Soviet design philosophy: prioritising speed, high climb rate, and effectiveness in a simple, lightweight, and mass-producible airframe. It served with numerous air forces around the world for many decades.
