About This Aircraft
The LVG C.VI was a German two-seater biplane used for reconnaissance and artillery spotting during the final year of the First World War. This aircraft, G-AANJ, is an original airframe manufactured in 1918, bearing the military serial 7198/18. The C.VI was a refined and successful design, noted for its plywood monocoque fuselage which was both strong and aerodynamic. It was powered by a 200 hp Benz Bz.IV inline engine. The pilot sat in the rear cockpit, with the observer/gunner in the forward position, equipped with a flexible Parabellum machine gun for defence. After the war, this aircraft was brought to Britain, where it was later given the civil registration G-AANJ, and it remains one of the few airworthy examples of a German WWI combat aircraft in the world.
