About This Aircraft
The Lockheed Ventura was an American twin-engine medium bomber and patrol aircraft used during World War II. It was developed from the Lockheed Model 18 Lodestar transport. This aircraft represents AJ469, a Ventura II which served with the Royal Air Force after being acquired through Lend-Lease. Powered by two powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines, the Ventura was fast but was not considered a great success as a daylight bomber with the RAF, suffering losses on raids over occupied Europe. It found more success with RAF Coastal Command as a maritime patrol aircraft, and also served with other Allied air forces.
