About This Aircraft

The Scottish Aviation Jetstream T.1 was a multi-engine pilot trainer that served with the Royal Air Force. This example is XX496. The Jetstream is a small, pressurised, twin-turboprop aircraft, originally designed by Handley Page as a regional airliner. After Handley Page went bankrupt, the design was picked up by Scottish Aviation. The RAF selected the Jetstream as its standard multi-engine trainer, used to prepare pilots destined to fly larger transport and maritime patrol aircraft like the Hercules and Nimrod. Powered by two Turbomeca Astazou turboprop engines, the Jetstream T.1 provided a modern and effective training platform for decades, serving at RAF Finningley and later RAF Cranwell.
