About This Aircraft

The Hawker Siddeley Dominie T.1 was a specialised navigation trainer that served with the Royal Air Force for over 45 years. A military version of the HS.125 business jet, the Dominie was used to train navigators for the RAF's fast jet and multi-engined fleets. This example, XS709, served its entire life at RAF Cranwell. The aircraft's cabin was configured as a "flying classroom" with dedicated stations for two students and an instructor. Its most distinctive feature, compared to civilian 125s, was its ventral pannier which provided a better view for astro-navigation exercises using a periscopic sextant. The Dominie played a crucial role in training generations of RAF navigators, or "navs," until its retirement in 2011.
