Hawker Hart Trainer (II)

Light bomber trainer By: Hawker Origin: United Kingdom First Flight: 1928

About This Aircraft

The Hawker Hart was a British biplane light bomber of the Royal Air Force that was highly successful and influential in the early 1930s. This aircraft, K4972, is a Hart Trainer, a dedicated two-seat training variant. It was adapted with dual controls in tandem cockpits to facilitate flight instruction. Finished in the typical silver dope scheme of RAF training aircraft of the period, the Hart Trainer retained the elegant lines and handling characteristics of the combat variant. Powered by a Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine, the Hart Trainer was instrumental in preparing a generation of pilots in the 1930s as the RAF expanded, many of whom would later serve with distinction in the Second World War.
