Fieseler Fi 156-C7 Storch

About This Aircraft

The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch (Stork) was a German liaison aircraft of World War II, famed for its phenomenal Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) capabilities. This example, VP746, is one of several captured examples evaluated and used by the RAF. The Storch's incredible performance was achieved through a combination of a high-lift wing with fixed leading-edge slats and large flaps. Powered by an Argus As 10 inverted V-8 engine, it could take off in less than 60 metres and land in just 20 metres, making it perfect for operating from unprepared locations. Its extensively glazed cockpit provided exceptional visibility for observation and reconnaissance roles. This particular aircraft stands as a testament to the remarkable engineering that made the Storch one of WWII's most effective utility aircraft.
