About This Aircraft
The Boeing CH-47 Chinook HC.6A, serial ZA718, is arguably the most famous aircraft in the Royal Air Force's modern fleet. Affectionately known as "Bravo November" from its original tail code 'BN', this tandem-rotor heavy-lift helicopter has a legendary service record. Delivered in 1980, it gained fame during the 1982 Falklands War as the sole surviving RAF Chinook after the sinking of the Atlantic Conveyor. Since then, 'Bravo November' has served in every major British military operation, including Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The aircraft has been successively upgraded, now being in the advanced HC.6A configuration with powerful Honeywell T55-714A engines and a digital flight control system. Remarkably, four of its pilots have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions at its controls, cementing its status as one of Britain's most celebrated military aircraft.
