Bristol Bolingbroke Mk IV (as Bristol Blenheim)

Bomber aircraft By: Bristol / Fairchild Canada Origin: United Kingdom / Canada First Flight: 1939

About This Aircraft

This aircraft is a Bristol Bolingbroke Mk IV, a Canadian-built version of the British Bristol Blenheim light bomber, restored and painted to represent Blenheim L8756 of the Royal Air Force. The Blenheim was a revolutionary twin-engined light bomber when it first appeared, featuring a streamlined, all-metal construction. This variant is powered by two Bristol Mercury XV radial engines, each delivering 920 horsepower. The aircraft features a glazed nose for the navigator/bomb aimer and a mid-upper gunner's turret. Though fast upon its introduction, by the middle of WWII, the Blenheim had become vulnerable to enemy fighters. Nevertheless, it served in various roles, including coastal patrol, night fighting, and reconnaissance, flown by dedicated RAF crews during the early, challenging years of the conflict.
